Latin American seminar on agricultural value chains financing

 

The “First International Seminar in Latin America on Agricultural Value Chains Financing,” organized by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), will be held in Costa Rica. The Seminar will take place in San Jose, May 16-18, 2006, with technical support from the Inter-American Development Bank, RUTA, SERFIRURAL and the Academia Centroamerica.
 
The seminar will include speakers from 17 countries, including 37 high-level spokespersons from a select group of major companies in the agricultural sector, including producers, marketers, exporters and input suppliers. First-tier financial institutions that participate in financing arrangements for participants in agricultural production chains will also attend.

Participants will obtain first hand information about best international practices in financing value chains in the agricultural sector. There will also bee opportunities to interact with many participants, representatives of financial and non-financial entities, as well as officials from international organizations, bilateral agencies and governments.

New RUTA Web page on line

After a major overhaul, including redesign and updated information, the new RUTA Web site is now on line.  On the new Web site, cybernauts can find detailed information about RUTA, its working topics, member countries, aid agencies and Project management. You can also find news, publications, information about rural development events and RUTA activities, as well as useful links in the area of rural development and poverty reduction, as well as a substantial online library on these subjects.

There are 12 sections with updated information, links and publications regarding RUTA’s working areas and partners. The topics are poverty reduction, drivers of growth , vulnerable groups, DR-CAFTA and rural development, trade and agribusiness, environment and natural resources, avian flu, policies and standardization, institutional strengthening, rural financing, public-private partnerships, and knowledge and communications management.
