A dialogue about the International Fund for Development’s (IFAD) activities in Central America, and an analysis of 14 projects currently underway in the region, will be held next May 18-19, in Costa Rica. Project directors of the 14 current IFAD projects in Central America (see sidebar), three regional IFAD program coordinators and other IFAD members will attend, as well as representatives of RUTA and aid institutions such as UNOPS and CABEI. In addition to analyzing IFAD’s Central American project portfolio to identify opportunities and limitations of future interventions, RUTA and other regional programs (SERFIRURAL, PREVAL and FIDAMERICA) will discuss their work areas and training and technical assistance methods in support of IFAD’s strategy. Participation mechanisms will be defined for the projects in support of IFAD’s strategy and regional programs. Also, communication and periodic exchange of experiences between projects and other relevant actors will be encouraged. Since 1978, IFAD has been working in Central America, financing and developing programs in the fight against poverty, policy dialogue, project implementation, and knowledge management programs. Nearly 100,000 rural poor families in the Central America have benefited from the almost 40 projects that IFAD has developed in those countries since its creation. The total amount of resources programmed or committed by IFAD, countries and other sources for the projects has surpassed US$ 432 million, of which 65% has been IFAD’s contribution
